STORY OF SAGE PIPPALAD CURSING LORD SHANI

When the body of Maharishi Dadhichi was being cremated at the cremation ground, his wife was unable to bear the separation from her husband and placing her three-year old son in the cavity of a huge Peepal tree nearby, she herself sat on the pyre and became Sati.

In this way Maharishi Dadhichi and his wife were sacrificed but the child kept in the cavity of the peepal tree started crying out of hunger and thirst.

When he did not find anything, he started growing by eating the peepal leaves (fruits) that had fallen in the cavity. Over time, the child's life was somehow saved by eating peepal leaves and fruits.

One day Devarshi Narad passed by there. Seeing the boy in the hollow of the Peepal tree, Narad asked for his introduction-

Narada- Child who are you?

Child: This is what I also want to know.

Narada- Who is your father?

Child: This is what I want to know.

Then Narada looked at him with concentration. Narada was surprised and said, "Oh child! You are the son of the great donor Maharishi Dadhichi. It was by making a thunderbolt from your father's bones that the gods had won over the demons." Narada told that your father Dadhichi had died at the age of only 31 years.

Child: What was the reason for my father's untimely death?

Narada- Your father was under the influence of Lord Shani.

Child: What was the reason for the calamity that befell me?

Narada - Mahadasha of Saturn.

Having said this, Devarshi Narada named the boy, who lived by eating peepal leaves and cow dung, as Pippalad and initiated him.

SAGE PIPPALAD GETS BOON

After Narada left, the angry and vengeful Pippalada performed severe penance as per Narada's advice and pleased Lord Brahma. When Lord Brahma asked Pippalada to ask for a boon, Pippalada asked for the power to burn any object with just his sight.

On receiving the boon from Lord Brahma, Pippalada first invoked Lord Shani and presented him before himself and on finding him in front of him, he opened his eyes and started burning him to ashes.

Shani Dev started burning with his body. There was uproar in the universe. All the gods failed to protect Shani, the son of the Sun. Even the Sun, seeing his son burning in front of his eyes, started pleading to Brahma Ji to save him.

PIPPALAD'S CONDITIONS:

Finally Brahma himself came to Pippalad and asked him to release Shanidev but Pippalad was not ready. Brahma asked him to ask for two boons instead of one. Then Pippalad was happy and asked for the following two boons-

1- There will be no place for Saturn in the horoscope of any child from birth till 5 years. So that no other child becomes orphan like me.

2- The Peepal tree has given me shelter as an orphan. Therefore, whoever offers water to the Peepal tree before sunrise will not be affected by the Mahadasha of Saturn.

Brahma Ji granted the boon saying 'Tathastu'. Then Pippalad freed the burning Shani Dev by striking his feet with his Brahmadanda. Due to this, Shani Dev's feet got damaged and he could not walk as fast as before.
Hence, from then onwards, Shani came to be known as "Shanai:charati yah Shanaishchar:" i.e. the one who walks slowly is Shani, and due to burning in the fire, Shani's body became black and his body parts became deformed.

This is the religious purpose of worshipping the black idol of Shani and the Peepal tree.

PEEPAL TREE ... REMEDY FOR SHANI DOSHA / SHANI DASHA
The only tree that releases oxygen all 24 hours, Peepal tree is mentioned in Padma Puran as lighting a lamp on the roots and by watering the tree, your life becomes free from hurdles.

In more grave situations, offering milk, jaggery (gurh), black sesame (kaale til) and water shall help you get rid of the malefic effect of planets.

  • People suffering from Shani's half-and-half, dhaiya and bad effects should offer water mixed with jaggery, milk to the Peepal tree on every Saturday. Also, light a mustard oil lamp on Saturday evening.
  • Take 11 of Peepal's leaves, and write Jai Shri Ram on them with sandalwood ink. Make a garland of these leaves and put it on Lord Hanuman. The anger of Shani Dev will end from your zodiac and you will get fruitful results.

Later Pippalad composed the Prashna Upanishad, which is a huge storehouse of knowledge even today.

The Pippalad Rishi Ashram is located in Kothi, Narmada. There is also an ancient temple called the Shri Peepeeshwar Mahadev Temple in Pithamali, Khargon, Madhya Pradesh, which is believed to be the place where the sage Pippalad meditated.

The Legend of Garuda Temple: Where Stories from All Yugas Meet

The GARUDA TEMPLE in Kolar features a striking Garuda idol that holds both Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The pooja performed here is believed to help alleviate Sarpadoshas, and the priest provides detailed explanations to ensure all devotees receive darshan. Inside the temple, there is also a statue of Hanuman holding the Brahmastra.

The Garuda deity carries Lord Vishnu in his right hand and Goddess Mahalaxmi in his left, adorned with eight serpents. Devotees believe that performing abhishekam for the deity can relieve them of any of the eight types of Sarpadosham.

STORY BEHIND THE TEMPLE :

Jatayu’s Brave Intervention
In the Ramayana, Jatayu, the King of Birds, witnessed the demon king Ravana abducting Seetha Matha. Despite his old age and weakened body, Jatayu's sense of duty drove him to intervene.
He confronted Ravana, urging him to release Seetha, but Ravana, blinded by arrogance, refused. A fierce battle followed, and though Jatayu fought valiantly, Ravana overpowered him, cutting off his wings and leaving him severely injured.

Jatayu’s Final Act of Devotion
As Jatayu lay wounded, chanting "Rama," Lord Rama and Lakshmana, who were searching for Seetha, heard his faint cries and rushed to his side. In his final moments, Jatayu told them about Seetha's abduction, providing crucial information to Lord Rama. His sacrifice moved Rama deeply, and he honored Jatayu by performing his last rites on the battlefield where he fell.

Rama’s Praise for True Devotion
Lord Rama comforted Jatayu, praising his selfless service and devotion. He emphasized that true devotion lies in the effort, not in the outcome, and despite Jatayu’s physical limitations, his determination to protect Seetha made him victorious in spirit. Jatayu became a symbol of unwavering devotion and courage, showing that service to others is the highest virtue.
The Sacred Temple of Koladevi
In memory of Jatayu’s sacrifice, the people of Koladevi believe a temple was built on the sacred ground where Lord Rama performed Jatayu’s last rites. This temple stands as a lasting tribute to the noble bird’s loyalty and bravery, preserving his legacy for future generations.

The Burning of the Khandava Forest

In the Dwaparayuga, Agni, the god of fire, was weakened after consuming too many yagna offerings. Seeking to regain his strength, he requested the help of Arjuna and Lord Krishna to burn down the medicinal Khandava forest. Agni believed that consuming the herbs and animals of the forest would restore his power. With their divine weapons, Arjuna and Krishna protected the fire while it devoured everything.
The Great Battle Against Indra

As the forest burned, it disturbed Takshaka, the king of snakes, and his allies. Many creatures perished in the fire, and Takshaka’s son, Aswasena, narrowly escaped. Seeing the destruction, Varuna, the god of rain, intervened to save his friend Takshaka’s home, causing a downpour. However, Krishna and Arjuna, armed with divine weapons, held back the rains, allowing Agni to complete his task.

Agni’s Devouring Flame

The fire raged through the forest, scorching everything in its path. Animals ran in panic, some unable to escape. The ponds boiled, killing the fish and tortoises within. Despite Varuna’s repeated efforts to extinguish the flames with rain, the fire consumed the forest, leaving destruction in its wake.

A Divine Blessing

After the destruction, Arjuna felt guilty for the deaths of so many creatures and many snakes were killed and they cursed Arjuna with Sarpa Dosha. This had many ill effects on him in his Life causing him to seek nivarana from the Sarpa Dosha. He was then directed to pray to Lord Garuda to relieve him from this Sarpa Dosha.
Lord Narayana asks Garuda deva to help Arjuna clear the malefic effects of the Sarpa Dosha. Lord Garuda replies that he is not very effective or helpful without Lord Narayana or Goddess Lakshmi. Then, Lord Narayan says that he will be seated on the right of Lord Garuda and Goddess Lakshmi to his left, such that whoever seeks the blessings of Lord Garuda will also be twice blessed by them, with prosperity and abundance. This is also to be found to be stated in the Garuda Purana.

Connection to Koladevi Temple
This sacred event is believed to have taken place near the site of the Koladevi temple, where Garuda is still worshipped as the protector from Sarpadosha.

Another specialty in this temple is that there is also an idol of Lord Anjeneya Swamy. It is unique and not to be found anywhere else in the World as Lord Anjeneya is holding his Brahmastra in this hand. Also, his teeth are visible.

Garuda Temple, Kolar, is located about 17 kilometers from Mulbagal, accessible via Srinivasapura Road. Visitors need to travel a short distance off the main road, which is well-maintained. Numerous flower stalls nearby make the temple easy to find.

BENEFIT OF VISITING GARUDA TEMPLE
Dosha clearance:
Devotees believe that visiting the temple can clear doshas such as
Kalasarpa dosha, Hrudaya dosha, Kanta dosha, Kuja dosha, Bhuja dosha, Rahu sandhi dosha, and Shira dosha

THE POWER OF CHANTING THE TARAKA RAMA MANTRA

Once, Narada Muni asked Lord Vishnu, “What is the benefit of chanting the TARAKA MANTRA “Om Shri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama”?

Lord Vishnu pointed to a dung worm in the middle of an earthen hole and said, “Ask that creature and it will tell you.”

Narada did as he was told. But as soon as the dung worm saw Narada, it passed away.

Puzzled and surprised, Narada returned to Vishnu to share the unfortunate outcome. In response, Vishnu assured Narada not to be disheartened and suggested another approach. He pointed to a parrot’s nest in a mango tree
.
"
A baby parrot will be born there in a few moments. Go and ask the parrot about the power of chanting the Taraka Mantra"

Narada proceeded to the nest and chanted the Taraka Mantra Shri Rama Jay Rama Jaya Jaya Rama” greeted the baby parrot and even before asking the question of the power of chanting the Rama Mantra, the parrot died!
Narada became even more disappointed with the turn of events.

He went back to Lord Vishnu and told him what had happened. Lord Vishnu said, “I see. Let me try one more thing.”
He pointed to a barn in the distance. A cow will give birth to a calf there in a few moments. Go and ask the calf.”

Narada reluctantly went to the barn. When the cow gave birth to a calf, Narada started chanting the Taraka Rama Mantra. But as soon as he finished chanting the mantra, it too died!
Narada was now very distressed. He went back to Lord Vishnu and told him sorrowfully what had happened and asked
“Lord, why is the great Taraka mantra, which is supposed to be a saving mantra, killing every Jiva that hears it? I am confused. Please tell me.”
Lord Vishnu said, I understand your frustration. But I promise you that this time, the answer you seek will be given to you.”
He pointed to a rich kingdom in the distance.
“Go to that kingdom. The queen will soon give birth to a child. Ask the child what you want to know.”
Narada became fearful & pleaded with Lord Vishnu.
He said,
“Mahavishnu, all the creatures I encountered - the insects, animals, and birds - met their demise upon seeing me… What if this child dies too? What will the king and the queen do to me?”

Lord Vishnu assured Narada that nothing would happen to him. Narada took a deep breath and went to the kingdom.
When he arrived at the palace, he was welcomed by the King and taken to the just-born baby.
Rishi Narada
With great reluctance, Narada chanted ‘Om Shri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama’ into the ears of the baby.

Narada closed his eyes tightly not wanting to see the tragedy that had happened on three previous occasions.

The Great Sage Narada heard a voice from the cradle.

“Greetings, great sage,” the voice said.
Narada was astonished. Overwhelmed, Narada approached the newborn and asked the question that had been troubling him all along:
“What is the benefit of encountering chanting the Taraka Rama Mantra “Shri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama”.

The child said,
Oh great sage, for elevating me from three lowly births in a short time to this noble human birth. You came to me when I was a dung worm and when you chanted the great Taraka Rama Mantra ‘Shri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama’, I was instantly liberated from that miserable body and was born as a parrot. Even there when I became a parrot, you recited the powerful Taraka Rama Mantra. I was then reborn as a calf, yet again, you blessed me with the Taraka Rama Mantra and I was liberated from that birth too. Now I am reborn as a prince. I have benefited greatly from seeing you. Oh, revered sage, the benefits of encountering great souls like you are immeasurable and infinite.”

Narada left with a sense of contentment, understanding the profound significance of chanting the Taraka Rama Mantra

Moral of the story:
The benefit of chanting the evergreen powerful
TARAKA RAMA MANTRA “SHRI RAMA JAYA RAMA JAYA JAYA RAMA”
may not have immediate benefits at that moment, but it has a lasting impact and takes our destiny to great heights.

Chant the TARAKA RAMA MANTRA and stay blessed.

Offerings at the Lotus Feet of Bhagwan Vishnu.

PITRU PAKSHA (SHRAADH PAKSHA) FOLK STORY

FOLK STORY OF BROTHERS JOGE & BHOGE

Famous folklore connected with the Pitru Paksha (Shraadh Paksha) is of 2 brothers named Joge and Bhoge.
Brothers Joge and Bhoge though living separately loved and respected each other.
Joge's wife was proud of their Wealth.
Bhoge's wife was however down to earth and very simple.

Joge's wife wanted to perform Shradh for ancestors but Joge was not interested.
But Joge's wife didn't want to miss the opportunity to impress the villagers with her wealth by throwing a feast in the name of Shraadh.

She invited Bhoge's wife too. But this was done to make Bhoge's wife do all the work of cooking, cleaning, etc.

Bhoge's wife being dutiful, came early morning to Joge's house, prepared all the dishes, cleaned the place, and after completing her work went to her own to perform Shradh in her own house.

Bhoge's wife knew there was nothing at home.
Absolutely nothing at home.
Even to lit diya she didn't had oil or wick.
Even agarbatti she had only 1 !!!
With this single agarbatti she went to temple to lit the stick.
Once the agarbatti was lit, she came running home to do pooja before the agarbatti ran out of energy.

Soon it was noon and the Ancestors from Heaven came to Earth.
They first went to Joge's house and were shocked to see Joge's in-laws enjoying food instead of offering it to the Ancestors.

Disappointed they then went to Bhoge's house but were again disappointed as poor Bhoge's wife had nothing at home and had just lit an agarbatti in the name of the Ancestors.

The shocked and disappointed ancestors licked the ashes of the agarbatti and went to the river bank hungry.

In the evening, all the Dead Ancestors gathered and started praising their respective families for the offering made during the Shraadh.
The ancestors of Joge-Bhoge too narrated their ordeal.
The ancestors then felt that the good-hearted Bhoge family at least offered them something and if Bhoge family had the capacity, they would have definitely given more.
So they blessed Bhoge "Bhoge Ke Ghar Dhan Ho Jaye" (Let there be Widespread Wealth in Bhoge's house).

MEANWHILE,
In poor Bhoge's house, Bhoge's children did not have anything to eat and it was already evening.
They started pestering their mother to give them SOMETHING to eat.

Frustrated Bhoge's wife said, "Go and see in the tank, turn it upside down, whatever you get, you can have it".

When the children turned the Pot, they were shocked to see it FULL OF GOLD COINS.
Excited they called their mother and when Bhoge's wife came running and saw this, she too was shocked beyond belief.

Gradually Bhoge family used this Wealth to do business and become more Wealthy.
They did not become arrogant and remained simple-hearted.

When the next year Shraadh came, Bhoge prepared 56 varieties of dishes for the ancestors.
Bhoge family invited Brahmins, served a delicious variety of Food, and gave a lot of Dakshina including Gold and silver.

The Brahmins and of course, Bhoge's ancestors blessed the Bhoge family full of heart to be HAPPY AND CONTENTED FOREVER.

So, go ahead and donate with a full open heart this Pitru Paksha and get blessed.

All the best,
May you stay blessed, happy, and contented.

THE FAITH OF THE SPARROW

The Biggest battle on Earth, the battle of Kurukshetra preparation was in full swing.
The grounds were being cleared for the mammoth armies of both sides to arrive.
Trees were being felled and uprooted to clear the path for the large cavalries.
On one such tree lived a mother sparrow with her 4 young ones.

Oblivious to its presence, the soldiers used the elephant to knock down this particular tree too.
The Mother Sparrow's nest fell on the ground along with her just born, with no strength to fly, miraculously were unharmed.
The frightened Mother Sparrow looked at the sky with a prayer for help.
And Lo! its eyes fell on the ever-smiling Lord Krishna on his chariot with Arjuna. The Lord was there to personally examine the battlefield and devise a winning strategy to help the Pandavas win the war.

Mother Sparrow with a renewed hope and spring in her wings, flew to Lord Krishna and fell at his feet.
"Please save my children, O dear Krishna. They will be crushed under the feet of soldiers and the elephants tomorrow when the battle starts" pleaded the crying Mother Sparrow

Lord Krishna, took a deep breath "I understand Mother Sparrow. But I cannot interfere with the Law of time. What has to happen.... will happen"

Mother Sparrow did not budge "Oh Lord, I have come under your shelter and its for me you the Law of the Universe and I surrender myself to you. Please protect my children"

"All right....go and stock food for 3 weeks in your nest" assured the ever protecting Lord Krishna.

The Mother Sparrow did as told and went deep into the nest with her newborn offspring right there in the middle of the Kurukshetra battlefield.

2 days before the mightly battle, Lord Krishna and Arjuna once again came to the battlefield.
Krishna asked Arjuna for his Bow and Arrow.
Shocked Arjuna said "Lord, you have vowed not to live any weapon in the war. Order me, my Lord...whom and where to shoot. I will do it"
Lord Krishna said "Look at that elephant... it's the same one which bought down a tree. It needs to be tamed"
Saying this, the Lord took the bow from Arjuna, aimed at the elephant, and shot the arrow.
The arrow hit the Huge Bell around the neck of the Elephant and the Bell fell on the ground.

Amused Arjuna couldn't hide his chuckle at Krishna missing such an easy aim. "Shall I try?" said Arjuna.
"Not necessary," said Lord Krishna and moved ahead.

The Mightly War started and numerous lives on both sides were lost over the next 18 days.

Post the war, Lord Krishna and Arjuna once again came to the battlefield now completely muddled and full of dead bodies.

Krishna stopped at a certain spot & looked down thoughtfully at an elephant bell.

"Arjuna," he said, "will you lift this bell for me & put it aside?"

The instruction, though simple, made little sense to Arjuna. After all, in the vast field where plenty of other things needed clearing, why would Krishna ask him to move an insignificant piece of metal out of the way? He looked at him questioningly?

"Yes! This bell!" Krishna reiterated. "It's the same bell that had come off the elephant's neck I had shot at."

Arjuna bent down to lift the heavy bell without another question. As soon as he lifted it though, his world changed, forever.

Out flew 1...2...3...4...5 sparrows...
they were the same Mother Sparrow and its 4 offsprings.
Fully protected by the Bell that had fallen from the elephant's neck which Lord Krishna had shot at!

Stunned Arjuna now understood the Lord Krishna's reason for hitting the bell of the elephant.
He prostrated before the Lord and said "Forgive me, O Krishna, Seeing you in the human body & behaving like ordinary mortals, I had forgotten who you really are."

Faith is the heart’s wisdom. It’s what your mind can’t grasp but your heart knows. Give it a place in your life and you’ll fly with a thousand wings. Higher and swifter. Across the seas, beyond the skies.

Have a Safe day! And let this be every day.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS LEAD TO NEGATIVE RESULT

King Mahendra was touring his kingdom on his elephant. Suddenly he stopped in front of a shop in the market and said to his minister, "I don't know why, but I feel like wanting to hang the owner of this shop." The minister was shocked. But before he could ask the king why, the king had moved on.

The next day, the wise minister went to that shop dressed as one of the locals to see the shopkeeper. He casually asked him how his business was faring.

The shopkeeper, a sandalwood merchant, sadly informed that he had hardly any customer. People would come to his shop, smell the sandalwood and then go away. They would even praise the quality of the sandalwood but rarely buy anything. His only hope was that the king would die soon. Then there would be a huge demand for sandalwood for performing his last rites. As he was the only sandalwood merchant around, he was sure the king's death would mean a windfall.

The minister now understood why the king had stopped in front of this shop and expressed a desire to kill the shopkeeper. Perhaps, the shopkeeper's negative thought & negative vibration had subtly affected the king, who had, in turn, felt the same kind of negative thought arising within the King.

The wise noble minister pondered over the matter for a while. Without revealing who he was or what had happened the day before, he expressed a desire to buy some sandalwood. The shopkeeper was pleased. He wrapped the sandalwood and handed it over to the minister.

When the minister returned to the palace, he went straight to the court where the king was seated and reported that the sandalwood merchant had a gift for him. The king was surprised. When he opened the package, he was pleasantly surprised by the fine golden color of the sandalwood and its agreeable fragrance. Pleased, he sent some gold coins to the sandalwood merchant. The king also felt sorry in his heart that he had harbored unbecoming thoughts of killing the shopkeeper.

When the shopkeeper received the gold coins from the king, he was astounded. He began to proclaim the virtues of the king who had, through the gold coins, saved him from the brink of poverty. After some time, he recalled the morbid thoughts he had felt towards the king, and repented for having entertained such negative thoughts for his own personal goal.

If we have a good and kind thought for another person, that positive thought will come back to us in a favorable way. But if we harbor evil thoughts, those thoughts will come back to us as retribution.

As Lord Krishna says “OUR THOUGHTS ARE OUR KARMA”
Control the thoughts. Do not allow negativity to creep in.

Be Blessed Of Divine Light.

Always feel good about others and you will be happy. If you are nice to others and do good to others you will never be in trouble. And if everything is good, no scope for mind to deviate."

BG 17.16: Serenity of thought, gentleness, silence, self-control, and purity of purpose—all these are declared as the austerity of the mind.

People imagine that their thoughts are secret and have no external consequences because they dwell within the mind, away from the sight of others. They do not realize that thoughts not only forge their inner character but also their external personality. That is why we look upon someone and say, “He seems like a very simple and trustworthy person.” For another person, we say, “He seems to be very cunning and deceitful. Stay away from him.” In each case, it was the thoughts people harbored that sculpted their appearance.
