gesture as if ready to proceed for the battlefield and thus she removes the
difficulties of devotees very promptly. Her vehicle is lion and so her
worshiper becomes valorous and fearless like a lion. The sound of her bell
always protects her devotees from evil spirits. As soon as the sadhak invokes
her, her bell immediately becomes active and starts ringing to protect the
devotee under her shelter.
STORY OF DEVI MAA CHANDRAGHANTA
According to Shiva
Maha Purana, Chandraghanta is the “Shakti”, of Lord Shiva in the form of
Chandrashekhara. Each aspect of Shiva is accompanied by Shakti, therefore they
are Ardhanarishvara.
Lord Shiva came in a bizarre style to marry her and his
body was covered with ashes and numerous snakes. Moreover, he came along with
ghosts, old sages and ghouls. Observing this, Maa Parvati's parents and
relatives were completely stunned. To come out of this embarrassing situation,
mother Parvati took the furious form of Maa Chandraghanta. Maa Chandraghanta
worshipped Lord Shiva and requested him to take the form of a charming prince.
Appeased by Maa Chandraghanta, Lord Shiva appeared himself as a prince,
SUNDARESHWAR.
After getting married to Lord Shiva Goddess Mahagauri
started adorning her forehead with half Chandra and due to which Goddess
Parvati was known as Goddess Chandraghanta.
In today’s scenario, learning from Goddess
Chandraghanta’s qualities can help us a lot in our life. While we do need to be
calm and composed, but when the need arises we need to show courage.
Goddess Chandraghanta is the married form the Goddess
Parvati. After getting married to Lord Shiva Goddess Mahagauri started adorning
her forehead with half Chandra and due to which Goddess Parvati was known as
Goddess Chandraghanta.
In Durga Pooja the third day of
Navratri is very important . This day the mind of the sadhak enters Manipura
Cakra. At this stage by the grace of Maa Chandraghanta he becomes capable of
seeing unearthly and divine things. He smells the divine fragrance and many
types of divine sound become audible to him. On this day and in this stage of
discipline the sadhak is required to be most careful.
TEMPLE OF DEVI CHANDRAGHANTA :
Chandraghanta Devi Temple @ Jaitpura, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Devotees
pay their respect to the goddess in form of flowers, coconuts and laal chunari. The temple is placed on a very narrow road so it is better to go by rickshaw till the chowk and then by foot. The best time to reach is in the morning so that you get the place of your choice because by evening it is too crowded.

Srikanth Matrubai
